Unhatched

Hello! (this is the second time I've done this page now, blogger keeps deleting everything)

Dan approached me to work on another third years film! I met up with the guys behind it, who are Tom and Guy. They are working on a film called 'Unhatched' which is about two small birds who come across a large egg in their nest and are very confused and worried as to how it got there and what its doing. Its a really nice and simple idea which they are doing really well! They pitched their idea to me and showed me the animatic and rig along with the models. It instantly drew me in and I said I was on the film as long as they wanted me to be! I would be animating some scenes for them as they had 40+ shots in the film! Here is the link to the animatic: Unhatched animatic

I was sent the rig and did a test to show them (to get on the film) so I had to try and show off my animation skills. It's pretty simple, but I really enjoyed using the rig and animating this tests, plus I wanted to use everything the rig had to offer so I could get used to it and show them both I could actually use the rig well. Now onto my first shot! Tom sent me shot 12 to animate. This shot was both of the two birds looking up at the egg that is in their nest. They both look confused and worried as to why it is there. This was quite a nice shot to animate because it meant i could do some really nice eye animation with some subtle body animation going on in the background with the moving holds and weight shifting from left to right etc. I am pretty happy with how it turned out but they wanted to tweak the eyes a little, which is understandable because it is their film and they want it to be exactly how they wanted it!

Next, I was sent shot 27 and shot 28. These are two shots that link in together as they are of each bird ducking from the egg finding its balance as it swings its legs around. Due to having so much work with my other two films to animate on too, I had to give shot 28 back, as I wouldn't have had it done in time for their submission date and I didn't want to be the cause for a late hand in or anything. I still did shot 27 and I am happy with how it turned out and I got a good reaction from Tom and Guy too.

I don't have the final renders of these scenes due to them now being rendered yet, but Tom kindly sent me renders of one frame from each shot so I can show that as evidence of the level of quality that will be in the final film:
